Puerto Maldonado is the capital of the department of Madre de Dios and is located in the south-eastern part of Peru at 183 meters of altitude. It was founded in 1902 and is one of the most important cities of the Southern jungle in the country. It is a young and bustling frontier city with forestry and gold panning as their main economic activities, although farming and the ecological tourism are being developed. Its climate is tropical, calid humid and rainy between November and April, with an average temperature during the year between 26ºC and 35ºC. Puerto Maldonado is the scenary of adventure in a wild and marvelous jungle located next to the Manu National Park and the Tambopata-Candamo National Reserve.

PUERTO MALDONADO
Puerto Maldonado is synonymous of mystery, legend, paradise and adventure. This green Amazonian area located 25 minutes by plane from Cusco and surrounded by the Tambopata and Madre de Dios Rivers with beautiful and extraordinary landscaping, is a great tour complement for visitors to Cusco or for lovers of flora, fauna and adventure. Its architecture of rustic wooden houses with palm and metal roofs contrasts with some small but modern houses.
When visiting Puerto Maldonado, we recommend taking insect repelents; high rubber shoes (sneakers) or, if possible, plastified boots. You also need a yellow fever vaccination.

LODGING
The lodging accommodations available in this area are made of rustical characteristics but safe. They are located in the middle of this green jungle where you can appreciate its beautiful flora, a fabulous fauna, spectacular gorges and enjoy fishing. You can have unforgetable experiencies touring the Sandoval and Valencia Lakes, visiting gold panning locations, taking a walk through the jungle, navigating nearby wild rivers, or visiting the Fitzcarrald Ship agrounded inland where you can revive part of the rubber workers legend. All of these within the Manu National Park, one of the most famous of the world because of its flora and fauna.

MEALS
Meals during these trips are based on fruits, vegetables and meats that are provided locally, besides some complements brought from Cusco. Also, there are some excellent and exotic local beverages.
